André van Zyl is an epidemiologist and data strategist with nearly twenty years of public-health experience spanning mental-health care, infectious-disease surveillance, and advanced analytics. He holds a BA in Clinical Psychology and Sociology and an MPH, grounding his technical work in a deep understanding of human behaviour and population health. His career began in community mental-health services, where he learned to translate complex evidence into practical action. At CDC, he advised on global antimicrobial resistance surveillance systems and built R- and Python-based tools that streamlined reporting and trend monitoring for eight countries—including the United States. He also led the development and evaluation of a knowledge-grounded chatbot that improved information access for microbiologists. Today, as Founder of Intersect Collaborations LLC, André helps mission-driven organisations prove the value and impact of their programmes by pairing statistical rigour with clear narrative while training local teams so results endure long after the engagement.
